The Metz mecablitz 40 AF-4 was specifically developed for the leading camera manufacturers Canon, Minolta and Nikon. Operation of this fully dedicated flash unit is exceptionally simple.
The integrated power zoom with four zoom settings between 28 mm an
d 80 mm (28, 35, 50 and 80) can be fully automatically controlled by the camera or manually adjusted at the depression of a button. The vertically tilting reflector up to 90° is used for indirect illumination.
In addition to the integrated autofocus me
asuring beam, three operating modes are available to the user: manual, manual with partial light output (1/16) and TTL mode (through-the-lens) where a photo sensor incorporated in the camera controls the light output of the 40 AF-4. The sensor measures th
e light reaching the film surface. With the leading system cameras Canon and Nikon, the 40 AF-4 flash unit supports optional first or second curtain synchronization.
The illuminated LC display indicates the flash mode, auto-zoom or manual zoom, distan
